SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

social responsabilityPeruvian Link is proud to be supporting two very important charities. The QUECHUA BENEFIT and THE NUNOA PROJECT.
Quechua Benefit , The motivating principal of the charity has been to provide a vehicle for Alpaca Breeders to express their thanks and to give back to the Quechua Indians who have domesticated and cared for the alpaca from more than 50 centuries.

Nunoa ProjectThe Nuñoa Project.

Presently a small orphanage exists in the town for 8-12 children who have either lost their parents or can no longer be supported by them.
This facility is closed, with no plan for replacement or alternative relocation for the twelve children who live there.
Keeping this important resource open is a top priority for the Nuñoa Project. Thank you for your support.

KARINA POMROY'S TESTIMONIAL

Nuñoa is a small town in the highlands of Peru, five hours away from Cuzco, in the department of Puno. Nuñoa is home to most of the Alpacas in earth, Peru has 80% of the total population of Alpacas in the world and Puno has a great number of them.

Living conditions of the farmer are very primitive. They live in huts year round where there is little or not access to water., not electricity and transportation is not easily available, so it is not uncommon to find people that must walk two or three hours to get to town.

The worse part of this scenario is the kids, whom love very much to go to school but that must walked same distance twice a day, every day. (Yeah! 4 hours all together!)

The Nuñoa Project was born with the idea to help these kids get education, so that they may turn around and change the pattern of extreme poverty that is passed generation to generation. Our goal is to build a temporary home for these kids, whom very much wish to go to school (located in “town”), so that they may live at the boarding house during the week, in that way they don’t have to walk such as great distances to get educated. At the house we will provide them with clothes, food and other basics so that they at least can have a decent live. They would return to their parents on the weekends and at school break. It is important to note that some parents have 6, 7, 8 and more kids, so it is impossible for them to support them all. Some of the kids are on their own. As frustrating as it is to find out that these people do not have any sense of responsible parenting, we have to deal with the reality of the problem. Ignorance plays a big role on the way how these people live. We believe that if we give these kids education, the pattern for a lot of the problems they have, may be broken. We believe in giving these kids at least the chance to change their lives. Otherwise they don’ have a chance AT ALL!

I can not find enough words to describe the sense of helplessness that one feels when you realized these kids have not shower for weeks, that they are wearing the same clothes (about 3 sets it is all they have) for weeks or months at the time. That rice has been most of their meals for months. After spending three full days with these farmers and kids, I could not do anything else but to support and help this project. I became a board member.

I now come to you to ask for your support.  Would you please consider donating to the Nuñoa Kids? Any size of donation is VERY WELCOME, $10, $25, $100, $1000, any amount would help us move forward with the project. We will keep you updated with the progress of the project. Maybe in the near future you could visit the town of Nuñoa and meet the kids personally. I promise that you will be impacting these kid’s lives with your donation and be assured you will be making a difference on a lot of people’s lives.

If you wish to use the credit card we have on file for your donation, please let us know or you may also send a check.

Nuñoa is a non-profitable organization and any donation is tax deductible.
